"MUSIC FOR PEACE"

Our families did something GREAT and in honour of our wedding they've decided to donate to a wonderful charity called 'Music for Peace'!

Music for Peace was founded in 2005 by architect Mehmet Selim Baki. He had been working to make this idea happen for some seven years and eventually he and Yeliz Baki founded the Music for Peace Foundation in 2011. They had already started providing community, social and cultural spaces for underprivileged children in 2005 and by 2013 they had taught polyphonic music to around 4000 children at workshops they founded in elementary schools, as well as at their own venue.

Music for Peace tries to reach as many children as possible and offers them music lessons completely free-of-charge. The ultimate goal is to make the sound of peace heard through music. This goal is in line with the principle as coined in the UN Convention on Children’s Rights, stating that every child has a right to participate in the creation of art. Music for Peace Foundation has three ensembles titled Peace for Music Orchestra, Music for Peace Chorus and Music for Peace Brass Ensemble under its umbrella.

KORUNCUK

We would also like to take this opportunity to introduce our very close friend Kerim Uralli who works for another wonderful charity called 'Koruncuk' (also known as, Turkish Foundation for Children in Need of Protection.)

Turkish Foundation for Children in Need of Protection, founded by volunteers who aimed to establish and promote villages for children in 1979, aims to enable children in need of protection (“koruncuk” in Turkish is similar to “protectdren” in English as a representation of both the words “protect” and “children”) to live in a family environment as soon as they arrive in “the children’s village” and grow up in a healthy environment, to receive education, to develop their personal skills, to prepare for the future and contribute to the society at large.

Our mission is to make children who “need protection”, who do not have a family or who are abandoned or whose personal existence is under threat despite his/her family, who are ignored or abused, or left defenceless against bad habits, successful individuals in the society and to provide solution to the problem of children in need of protection in our country and set an example through the “children’s villages” we have established.

Our goal is to increase the number of our children’s villages and to re-introduce more children who need protection into the society.
